A brick-built Type 22 hexagonal pillbox, part of Britain's hardened field defences constructed during World War II as part of anti-invasion preparations. These small fortified structures were strategically positioned to provide defensive positions for infantry and light weapons. The brick construction suggests this example may have been built in an area where concrete was less readily available or where the structure needed to blend with existing buildings.
