Am 28. 5. 1938 gab Adolf Hitler den Befehl für den beschleunigten Ausbau des Westwalls. Bereit am 1. 6. 1938 übernahm das Heeresgruppenkommando 2 die Oberleitung des Ausbaues. Entlang der belgischen und niederländischen Grenze entstand bis zum Herbst 1940
