Description

A former secret government bunker located near the town of Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Constructed between 1960 and 1972 inside two abandoned railway tunnels of the Strategic Railway, its purpose was to serve as a secure refuge for the West German government and key personnel in the event of a nuclear attack or major crisis during the Cold War. The site was maintained in working condition for approximately 30 years before being decommissioned in 1997. A small portion of the complex is now accessible to the public as a museum.
