The Līgatne Soviet Bunker, located near Līgatne in Latvia, is a former top-secret nuclear shelter constructed during the Cold War era. Built 9 meters underground, this bunker was designed to protect Latvia's Communist Party elite in the event of a nuclear conflict. The facility remained classified for decades, with even employees of the adjacent rehabilitation center unaware of its existence for 30 years.
The bunker now serves as a museum, displaying authentic Soviet-era exhibits that have been preserved since its operational days. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of the Cold War period and learn about Latvia's military history through the various artifacts and installations on display. The site offers a unique glimpse into the Soviet Union's preparations for potential nuclear warfare and the secretive nature of its military infrastructure.
