Līgatne Soviet Bunker

The Līgatne Soviet Bunker, located near Līgatne in Latvia, is a once-top secret underground facility constructed during the Cold War era. Built approximately 9 meters beneath the ground, this bunker was designed to serve as a shelter for Latvia's Communist elite in the event of a hypothetical nuclear war. The bunker's existence remained highly classified for decades, with even employees and clients of the adjacent rehabilitation center unaware of its presence for 30 years. Today, the bunker has been opened to the public as a museum, displaying authentic exhibits that have survived from Soviet times, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the Cold War era and the Soviet Union's preparations for potential nuclear conflict.
