Description

The Defence of Britain Location: On cliff top on W side of Porthcurno Beach, now part of the open air Minack Theatre. Condition: Removed Description: 25/09/1996 This is an extended type 24 pillbox, with a single detached outer blast wall to protect entrance. Built with concrete blocks, it has 14ins thick walls and a 9ins thick roof. This pillbox must be unique as it is in excellent condition and has been converted for use as the Box Office for the outdoor Minack Theatre. It was one of ten built to protect the Cable and Wireless Telecommunications Centre in Porthcurno. [The pillbox has now been demolished and a purpose-built booking office erected - information from Christine Finn, 25.8.99].
