Movik Fort

Movik Fort is a military fortification located near Arendal, Norway. The fort is situated in a commanding position above the Skagerrak Straits between Norway and Denmark. During World War II, the fort was constructed by the German occupying forces. It was equipped with the second largest cannon in the world at the time, a Krupp 380mm with a range of up to 55 kilometers (35 miles) and weighing 337 tonnes. This formidable weapon underscored the strategic importance of the fort in controlling maritime traffic through the straits. The fort's construction and armament reflect the broader context of Norway's military history during the war, where its geographical proximity to the USSR and later Russia has consistently made it a focal point for defensive strategies.
